I made it to Thailand! To be honest, the weeks leading up to my departure, I was convinced I would never actually make it. I figured my plane would crash, or some other terribly morbid event would prevent me from getting here. I kept asking myself…”how in the world did I get so lucky?” “This opportunity couldn’t possibly happen to ME, right?” “No…something will definitely go wrong and this will all be a goal that I once had, but never quite achieved.” Luckily, courtesy of American Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Dragonair, I did not plummet 30,000 feet to my tragic death, and I arrived without a scratch. 🙂 I already feel a sense of peace. A calming feeling that I have not felt for a very, very long time. A sense of freedom I thought I was never going to experience. It’s a good feeling. A really good feeling.
I’m hoping this blog inspires others to go outside of their comfort zone. To experience something new and different, even if its just trying a new food back home that they never thought they would want to try. I want people to ask themselves…”What is the worst thing that could possibly happen?” They might feel uncomfortable or scared? They might feel anxious? They might not like what they tried? They might fail? All of these thoughts and feelings are natural for everyone when they try something new, whether it be trying the peking duck at their local Chinese restaurant, or moving across the world to start a new career. What I am trying to say is, they will be OK. If it doesn’t work out as planned, at least they can say they tried. And that’s progress. That’s progress to a life a little more open minded and a little less…boring.
I would love for all of you to travel with me! But for those who can’t, allow me to show you the beauty of another culture through the wonders of the internet. Ironically, I am feeling a little nervous that this blog won’t be what I want it to be. I have never written a blog before and really have no idea what I am doing, but you know what? What’s the worst that could possibly happen? Any answer to that response is insignificant. At least I can say I tried. 🙂
I hope you all enjoy the pictures and posts to come, but if not…there are thousands of other blogs out there that I am sure will fit your needs. Thanks for following and feel free to comment!
